Balgair is a lightly raced, 6yo son of Australian stallion, Foxwedge (see full pedigree in ‘Breeding Line’ above) and is the winner of five races including here at Newmarket, on both the July course and Rowley Mile. Also a winner at Newmarket-by-the-Sea, better known as Great Yarmouth, he is a flashy chestnut who races enthusiastically and after appearing best suited by an easy mile, we have found a new key to him indicated below. Best on fastish ground, he is the ideal Summer horse and will be strategically placed to maximise his earnings.

Trained by Tom Clover at the historic, Kremlin House Stables, on the Fordham Road in Newmarket, he is both well built and incredibly sound, rarely misses a day’s work (see videos in ‘Media’ above), and is able to run in a multitude of interesting and valuable handicaps over a variety of trips, and most recently, successfully over 1m1f in September 2020. Originally prepared, prior to lockdown, for the race he won first time out last term in the middle of May, the delayed and compacted season which commenced on June 1st, saw him commence his season on June 3rd at Yarmouth where he finished a staying on third to the unbelievably well handicapped, Maydanny and Arigato. He followed that with a good fourth at the same venue before running a stormer behind Godolphin’s Ghaly at the July course here at Newmarket.

We sent Balgair to try his luck at Bath where he ran well but didn’t like the track, but, on his return back here to Newmarket, and the Rowley Mile is where he really found his feet. With a slight step up in trip, to 1m1f, Balgair stormed home in the Amateur Jockey’s Cambridgeshire, winning by an easy 6 lengths! (See full race replay courtesy of RacingTV in ‘Media’ tab above)

Following this win, Balgair went on to race in the prestigious Cambridgeshire itself! Unfortunately, conditions were not favourable for Balgair – who knows what would have happened if they were! However, as usual, Balgair stayed on right until the end, and did his Owners proud!

There is still plenty of fun to be had with this game and consistent sort and his next start is awaited with relish! He will, no doubt, provide his owners with tons of local fun and excitement for the remainder of 2020 and beyond…

Tom Clover follows, the late, great Michael Jarvis, Roger Varian and Simon Crisford as the master of Kremlin House and has already made a blistering start to the season. With his first winner at Glorious Goodwood last year, Tom, together with his wife, Jackie, daughter of Arc de Triomphe winning trainer, Michael, have big plans and run a yard that is very much on the up. Charming, welcoming and hugely hospitable, they run a terrific ship and we look forward to showing you around the yard.

A strong, sound and genuine sort, snap up a share in Balgair and cheer him on, enjoying all the benefits of ownership with this enthusiastic 6yo. Don’t forget, if you purchase a share in Balgair you automatically receive full One Thousand Guineas membership of Newmarket Racing Club for a year! Shares may be purchased online.
