Speaking with her trainer, Charlie Fellowes, he is convinced this filly is only just getting started… she had quite a compacted season this year, largely due to being a late foal, and then when she really started to blossom in late Spring, she developed a cough, then a little ‘ankle’ sprain, and due to her immaturity, was delayed in starting her racing career until the end of July. She then had her three runs to qualify for handicaps in quite a concentrated period, but each time took us to the Winner’s Enclosure – and then, in her very first handicap on turf, she bolted in and landed an excellent touch for her Owners, backed from 28-1 the night before, even touching 40-1 in a place or two, right into 16/1 at the off. It was quite a hot race, the form of which is expected to work out very well.
Iconique has certainly shown there is plenty more to come, and although Charlie indicated she was over the top by the time she ran at Newmarket’s final meeting, she is now enjoying a well-earned Winter break which will help her to further mature and develop over the coming weeks. This will allow us to have her ready for the very start of the new season in 2022.
We are already, eagerly, looking forward to her returning after her break to get started on what will be a most exciting 4yo career, and the good news is, we have now reopened the syndicate for 2022 and invite you to join us through the purchase of a lease share.
