Newmarket Racing Club introduce Balgair

Newmarket Racing Club introduce Balgair

On behalf of our members, Newmarket Racing Club have acquired the superb Balgair – and we can’t wait for you to meet him!

Balgair

Newmarket Racing Club are pleased to announce the acquisition of Balgair, a 5yo son of Australian stallion Foxwedge  and the winner of four races including here at Newmarket, on the July course. Also a winner at Newmarket-by-the-Sea, better known as Great Yarmouth, he is a flashy chestnut who appears best suited by a mile.
Able to run in a multitude of interesting and valuable handicaps, he looks sure to provide members with tons of local fun and excitement in 2020!

Tom Clover

Balgair will continue to be trained by Tom Clover, the young up and coming force, now firmly ensconced in the yard that provided the late, great Michael Jarvis with so many headline grabbing winners, at Kremlin House Stables on Fordham Road. Tom, a former point to point rider, started out as Assistant to NH trainer, Charlie Longson before spending five excellent and progressive seasons with David Simcock here in Newmarket where he met his wife Jackie, daughter of Michael and Gaye. Together they make a formidable team, combining their wide ranging expertise, experience and enthusiasm for the sport.
They have made a bright start to their career with an excellent success in 2019 at Glorious Goodwood, the obvious highlight. Part of the bright new dawn in the training ranks in Newmarket, their star is surely on the rise.

Kremlin House

After renting yards for the first three years of their training career, Tom and Jackie are now ‘at home’ at Kremlin House Stables which has a rich history of producing top class winners. Tom has a lot to live up to but the memories of the likes of Arc de Triomphe winner, Carroll House, Oaks winner, Eswarah and a multitude of Group One winners trained by Jackie’s father Michael which included Ifraaj and Rakti a Lockinge and Juddmonte International winner, will surely maintain his focus.
Indeed, even when Michael sadly passed on, Roger Varian continued the great tradition of the yard and quickly saddled Kingston Hill to win the St Leger. So, with a rich tradition to live up to both Tom and Jackie will attack their chosen profession with relish and we are extremely pleased they are training for the Newmarket Racing Club.

BALGAIR joins us as one of our first Club horses who will race on behalf of our members and help to truly enhance your enjoyment of the sport of kings. Look out for our next imminent addition!
