BULLINGTON BOY – 4yo bay gelding by Canford Cliffs x Borgia Gold

Bullington Boy, our newest addition to the ranks – a 4yo gelding, trained at Abington Place, the former home of both Harry and Geoff Wragg and now home to Jane Chapple Hyam’s string.

Bullington Boy is by Canford Cliffs out of Borgia Gold, a mare by Cape Cross. He was a 58,000 Euro yearling and, though French bred has done all his racing in this country. Although he is still to win, he has been a shade unlucky not to break that maiden tag on a few occasions, none moreso than just recently, when finishing a very good second, beaten only a half length, at Chelmsford. He had previously been an excellent third in a Lingfield Park maiden finding only the Charlie Appleby and Godolphin trained, Tolmount and the progressive Prince of Eagles a tad too strong, catching him inside the last furlong.

He is out of a half sister to Group One winning sprinter, the French trained, Signs of Blessing, and he shows plenty of pace in his races which is what attracted our interest. We’ve acquired him on a really attractive handicap mark and we’re re sure he can go on and break that maiden tag and can then subsequently, climb the handicap ranks in due course. He goes well on the all weather but looks to have just as much ability on turf and will be campaigned upon both surfaces. He has raced mostly over a mile but appears a highly versatile sort and can be raced over a variety of trips with seven furlongs potentially being his optimum on the all weather but maybe even shorter on turf when the ground is on the slow side and a mile will suit if the ground is quick. ….An exciting addition to the string!

His next start is imminent and will be in our Royal Blue and Emerald green colours – so imminent, in fact, that he has been entered for his first race with us on Wednesday 26th February at Kempton!
