Following Balgair’s race at Yarmouth, we have had long discussions with his trainer, Tom Clover, about the best options for him.
Following this, Balgair has been entered for the Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap Stakes over a mile on the first day of the eagerly awaited July Meeting here at Newmarket, Thursday 9th July at 1.15pm.
Naturally, whilst at this stage Balgair is showing no ill effects from his race at Yarmouth last Monday, we will only consider running him if we have no concerns about the quick reappearance and, of course, if the conditions are right.
Update 07/07/20
After consideration, with the welfare of Balgair in the forefront, we are pleased to say he has now been declared to run on Thursday!
There are 7 other runners and we have been drawn in the middle in stall number 4.
Aboard Balgair will be Ben Curtis, who is having a terrific season and was AW champion in the Winter. He has been flying this year!
Whilst it’s a pity we can’t all be there, we’re eagerly looking forward to seeing Balgair run here at HQ at the first meeting of the year on the July Course!
UPDATE 09/07/20 8.00am
Unfortunately this morning, Michael Prosser, Clerk of the Course at Newmarket, has changed the ground to Good to Soft.
Having walked the course this morning and following discussion with Tom Clover, Balgair has been declared a non-runner this morning.
There will of course be other opportunities and which we will be updating on soon..
