Churchill Rose is a gorgeous 4yo filly by dual Two Thousand Guineas winner, Churchill, from a family full of winners…

Purchased at the record breaking Guineas Breeze-Up sale, she is by multiple Classic winning stallion, Churchill, winner of both the Two Thousand Guineas here at Newmarket and also the Irish equivalent at the Curragh.

Stallion update… Already sire of SIX Group One winners Churchill, by Galileo, appears to extract significant improvement in his stock from two to three illustrated perfectly by the quite brilliant success of the French trained Vadeni, winner of the 2022 Prix Du Jockey Club (French Derby) (Grp 1), not only the stallion’s first stakes winner but also his first Classic Group ONE success. He followed that up the following year with Blue Rose Cen winning the Prix de Diane, another Classic Group One success along with several other group successes and is now well & truly ensconced as one of Europe’s leading sires with his stock in great demand, worldwide.

A multiple Group One winner, he won the Two Thousand Guineas here in Newmarket beating the subsequent St James Palace Stakes (Gp 1) winner, before repeating the feat in the Irish equivalent beating Godolphin’s Thunder Snow before that colt subsequently won the Group One Prix Jean Prat in France. Churchill then finished a good second to Ulysses when tried over 10f in the Juddmonte International (Gp 1). His progeny appear to progress hugely with racing and this filly, like many showed plenty of improvement as a 3yo following the lead of another Churchill in the Charlie Fellowes yard, Grand Alliance desperately unlucky not to win at Royal Ascot as a 3yo and on his first start as a 4yo, duly won the John Porter Stakes (Gp 3) at Newbury. Needless to say, Charlie is a big fan of the stallion.

Our filly is out of an excellent winner producing mare in Market Day, formerly trained by Luca Cumani at the very yard where our filly is now trained and who won four races herself. She has produced five winners from seven foals who raced including a dual Listed winner and Group placed filly in Carnachy who was trained by David Simcock. David also placed her to be third in a Group 3 and was only beaten three lengths in Speedy Boarding’s Group One, the Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville. Another foal, Saucy Minx was also placed at Listed level and, now a broodmare has produced a 105 rated foal already. Indeed, there are good Black Type winners right through her extended family going back to Mutamam and even to Mtoto.

The filly is trained, at Bedford House Stables on the Bury Road or Millionaires Row as it is sometimes referred to, with trainer, Charlie Fellowes. After a formative spell she made an abortive debut at Yarmouth as a 2yo when she was found to be in season and, adopting a patient approach with the filly, Charlie placed her to win handsomely at Yarmouth in August. Running over a trip just shy of a mile and a half, she travelled very nicely in the hands of Kieran Shoemark before quickening to take up the running two out and staying on strongly to win nicely by a couple of lengths…

She followed this with a narrow defeat at Lingfield when she bumped into a subsequent triple winner, going down by only a half length after zipping clear off the home turn but collared on the line.

She has had a refreshing Winter break and has come back in excellent form. Her trainer expresses himself delighted with how she looks and how she is performing in her early exercises and, indeed, she ran with great promise on her first start of the season at Kempton. She has plenty of options going forward and we’ll be considering all of them, as this well handicapped daughter of Churchill seeks to enhance her profile in 2024.
